Thinking about how far you have to go or how much work you have to get done over the weekend can kill your motivation to even get started.
Always remember, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and to even build up momentum, you must start somewhere.
Inch By Inch, It's A Cinch
The first time I heard this quote, I was listening to the Zo What Morning Show and it was mentioned by Bobby Glanton-Smith, author of the book, Real Men Don't Play.
The quote Inch by Inch, It's a Cinch, stems from a longer quote that says
"Mile by Mile, It's a Trial; Yard By Yard, It's Hard But Inch by Inch, It's a Cinch."
You will sometimes hear different versions worded differently but overall, it all means the same thing. To me, the quote is quite similar to the message behind "Little Efforts" and represents the same basic foundation,
"You will be more productive in what you are doing by tackling smaller tasks one at a time than taking on larger tasks all at once."
I personally have came to fully understand the meaning of what this truly means and have been practicing this for a little while now. Much of what this quote suggests is that you have to take lots of small action to fully accomplish something but many times what restricts us from doing this is a lack of focus and control of your subconscious mind. I will suggest to anyone to read 2 books that was very instrumental in helping me learn to control my subconscious mind.
These two books, in a nutshell, helped me to understand the real power of your subconscious mind and how to use it to focus in on the things you want to acquire in life whether it is mentally, socially, physically, or financially.
Sometimes we get very distracted and frustrated by the amount of time, energy and effort we may have to put into growing something or even getting to a certain point. We tend to look to see the end of something before we attempt to start but start to realize that we are no where near the end or where we want to be and by doing this, we put limits and boundaries in our mind.
Not only that, we will see how far we are from accomplishing something and start to rush through things or even take on multiple tasks at one time to which some will refer to as "Multi-tasking."
Taking on multiple tasks at one time and rushing through them can deplete the time and energy it takes to be fully focused on accomplishing your goal.
If we take a step back and start to set milestones for the problems we are trying to solve or for the goals we are trying to reach, we can can essentially accomplish things quicker.
Setting benchmarks and breaking your goals down into segments will ease the load and brain power consumption so things will be easier to manage and finish.
For the most part, we all want to finish things we set out to do but realistically, most of us never finish what we started. What happens after is that we are met with a great deal of disappointment because of what our minds have constantly told our subconscious minds.
The solution is to focus in on what you want to accomplish and that only. Do not worry about how much work you have to put in or how far you've got to go. The conditions are never perfect. You have to get started.
Start setting benchmarks and milestones for your goals and as you start knocking them out one by one, you will start to realize how much work you have put in that is only bringing you closer and closer to accomplishing your goals.
I would love to hear your thoughts and how this quotes apply to you. Have you ever lost your motivation to finish something because you thought it would be too much work or take too much time? Leave your comments below!
