Fear Is Not An Option - Gary Vaynerchuk | Lab172

"I sometimes secretly hope that my companies go out of business to zero,
I lose everything and all of you write things on social media that I actually suck and was full of shit!"

Everyone of my favorite rappers are what I like to think, natural born hustlers, from Jeezy, Jay Z and the late Nipsey Hussle. I started listening to Jay Z heavily back when I was starting this blog while working at the insurance company that I am also currently a licensed life agent for. I went back to Reasonable Doubt, his first album and worked my way thru his older music within his catalog. I did this in an effort to capture the essence of his hustle which was around that time he was making that pivotal transition to what he has become today or what I like to call “the come up.”

I did the same thing with Nipsey Hussle’s catalog right around the time he was doing his deal with Vezt, a digital marketplace for artists and songwriters to share a percentage of a song’s royalties to fans and brands for royalty-based financing through an Initial Song Offering® (ISO™).At that time, I was about a year into investing on equity crowdfunding platforms and I was looking for other alternative ways of investing small amounts of money. I found out about Vezt and after going through some of the videos on YouTube about the platform, I stumbled upon an interview with Nipsey, which he referenced the platform and his partnership with them.

With Jeezy, it was different in that I’ve been following Jeezy’s career from right around the Streetz iz Watchin mixtape. At that point, he had already dropped his second independent album “Come Shop With Me,” a 2 disk album that features tracks such as 22’s or Better, Rainy Days, Thug Ya and more.

One thing I can say is that I love a good story of someone rising from the bottom to the top but what is most interesting to me within those stories is that transitioning point where someone’s grind and everyday hustle scales and comes out of the mud and becomes a life of it own. When you look at people’s and companies success at that cusp within their journey, you tend to look at the details of what they were doing and how they were doing it and start to realize that it was their consistency that got them to the point their at today. They realized their why, and used that as a source of motivation to keep going.

I can name other artists, entertainers and entrepreneurs and companies that I was able to witness their starting stage, the growth stage and their established stage. But I named the 3 rappers specifically because not only do I admire their career, but I can name specific points in my life where their music and business acumen inspired much of the content I produce, the investments I’ve made and some of the businesses I’ve started. Basically, you can say that their are a partial source of my motivation throughout the everyday grind being that I am still working through the mud!

Two of those rappers have also sat down with one of my favorite entrepreneurs during a filmed, one on one where in both videos, the conversations centered mainly around building brands and acquiring other businesses. Both equally packed with tons of great information, however one of them now plays as what can be called, the soundtrack to an entrepreneurs everyday life.

Recently on Friday, Jeezy released the highly anticipated TM104:The Legend of Snowman

And to get straight to the point, guess who's dropping jewels on the intro of the album. If you don’t know by now, it’s the one and only Gary Vee, and it couldn’t have been anymore perfect. You got Jeezy talking in his trapstar bag and you got Gary talking in his typical business bag! The track which is the intro, is perfectly titled “enTRAPreneur” and from 0:01 to 0:22, Gary starts on top of an uplifting, violin laced melody, shedding his opinions of losing and fear—

“Fear is not an option
I prefer to lose
I sometimes secretly hope that my companies go out of business to zero
I lose everything and all of you write things on social media that I actually suck and was full of shit
And then in the dirt, with a fuckin'— the pain
I'ma rise like a fuckin' phoenix and kill all you motherfuckers
I mean it, yeah"

—GaryVee

Jeezy then starts rapping, giving us a glimpse into his world coming up as a young man before the success. Around the 2:18 mark, Gary comes back in to end the track giving his thoughts on what he thinks of Jeezy—

“I think you should buy Wheaties
Right
For, like, like— I'm being serious
F'real, f'real
Like, that's what I think you can do
I think a lot of kids are gonna make money
You're an entrepreneur
Like, when I look at you, I look at you f—
I look at you "Entrepreneur, comma, artist
Right”

—GaryVee

The two and a half minute intro, which is an exert from an episode of the #AskGaryVee Show, shines a light on Gary’s conversation with Jeezy at VaynerMedia’s headquarters and more importantly, the mindset that every entrepreneur and those aspiring to be, should have. That is to keep going no matter the circumstances, which I think is the true essence of the word Perseverance.
Fear is not an Option

The first words spoken by Gary on the intro, speaks volumes and that quote alone, can help you persevere through the everyday grind. However, I am aware that keeping one’s self going is a difficult thing to do and I can personally attest to that.

There are a million distractions that occur every day which can distract us from staying on track with what we should really be doing. Self-motivation is something that does not come easy to many of us and that means that there are some steps that need to be taken before you can become motivated to the fullest extent. Of course there are some other matters that first need to be taken care of. If there are a lot of distractions that keep you from doing what you need to be doing then you need to make some changes. This is really the first step towards becoming self-motivated in any form.

When you have it set in you mind, wake up everyday and live, eat and breathe by the statement of “Failure is not an Option”, it means that there is no outside force or person pushing you to become what you want. The whole concept of succeeding lies within yourself and that means that you will need to make the effort yourself to be who you want to be. The doing away with the distractions means that you need to be completely self-reliant and if you have many distractions, then you will not be getting the things done, wasting time. I think Gary is trying to explain the things that he is personally doing which is taking the effort to make sure that you are completely absorbed in what you are doing, especially when it comes to dreams, goals, work, etc.. This will mean that everything else takes a back seat and you are working to the best of your ability.

To be self-motivated is to be the one person that gets things done and while things can get difficult at times, understanding your purpose and the want to better yourself can help you get to a point where failure is not an option, more of an obstacle you need to go through to get to where you want to be.

Success is Measured in your Happiness - Martin Lawrence | Curated Quotes

If you can look back on all the things you have ever bought
or wish you had,
how many of those things can you say really brings you
true and pure happiness?

Success is Measured in your Happiness

Sitting back one day watching a few videos on YouTube, I came across an old interview of Martin Lawrence on the Arsenio Hall Show. After clicking and watching the entire clip about 6 times, it can only leave one feeling inspired and motivated.

The famous interview of Martin Lawrence was one of the most energized and inspiring interviews that you can find of Martin in his younger days.

During the interview, Martin dropped a quote that is not unheard off, but is 100% accurate and resonates with anyone watching the clip. He said,

"This world ain't suppose to be like this. This is all wrong. We are fighting for the wrong things. Everybody measures success in having a car, having a big house, but success is measured in your happiness because if you ain't happy...... it don't mean a damn thing!"

A few things stood out about this quote, especially watching this interview 20 years later. Over the years, Martin has carved himself out a great career not only as an comedian, but as a actor, producer just to name a few. Throughout his career, he has always drop pieces of wisdom during his interviews and standup shows.
Personal Development Category (English)300x250

If you remember in the 2002 standup, Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat, at the beginning of the show, he spoke words of wisdom to the audience explaining how the media has shine a negative light on him during his low times. Instead of wallowing in the low times, he picked himself up and rose to be an even bigger star.

The quote, Success is Measured in your Happiness is the most profound statement because lets be honest here, if you are not happy with something that you have, many times those things you are not happy with becomes practically non existent to you

Overall, what Martin is trying to say here is really for people who thinks that having material possessions equates to success which in turn will make you a happier person.

It will result in temporary satisfactory and pleasure which many refers to as happiness, but the overall state of "being happy" is something that comes from your inside, with satisfaction and pleasure being a byproduct of being happy.
Also, one testament to this is the fact these days, the average attention span on one particular thing is so short that many of us are always looking for the "next new thing" when the once new thing becomes the old thing

Now if this statement is even slightly true, and with the concept of planned obsolescence (a purposefully implemented strategy that ensures the current version of a given product will become out-of-date or useless within a known time period), we can count on the fact that pleasure or satisfaction of something will eventually wear off.

So in a sense, you can possibly say that buying or having things can bring short term happiness, but what really matters is your long term happiness and what brings that differs from person to person but normally includes Love, Peace, Family and Friends, Achieving Goals and things of that nature. At the end of the day, it is solely up to you to determine and distinguish what brings you short term happiness and what brings you long term happiness

You can check out the entire video of the famous interview of Martin Lawrence on the Arsenio Hall Show back in the 90's below. Quote begins around 5:37

Inch By Inch, It's a Cinch - Curated Quotes | Lab172

Thinking about how far you have to go or how much work you have to get done over the weekend can kill your motivation to even get started.
Always remember, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and to even build up momentum, you must start somewhere.

Inch By Inch, It's A Cinch

The first time I heard this quote, I was listening to the Zo What Morning Show and it was mentioned by Bobby Glanton-Smith, author of the book, Real Men Don't Play.

The quote Inch by Inch, It's a Cinch, stems from a longer quote that says

"Mile by Mile, It's a Trial; Yard By Yard, It's Hard But Inch by Inch, It's a Cinch."

You will sometimes hear different versions worded differently but overall, it all means the same thing. To me, the quote is quite similar to the message behind "Little Efforts" and represents the same basic foundation,

"You will be more productive in what you are doing by tackling smaller tasks one at a time than taking on larger tasks all at once."

I personally have came to fully understand the meaning of what this truly means and have been practicing this for a little while now. Much of what this quote suggests is that you have to take lots of small action to fully accomplish something but many times what restricts us from doing this is a lack of focus and control of your subconscious mind. I will suggest to anyone to read 2 books that was very instrumental in helping me learn to control my subconscious mind.

These two books, in a nutshell, helped me to understand the real power of your subconscious mind and how to use it to focus in on the things you want to acquire in life whether it is mentally, socially, physically, or financially.

Sometimes we get very distracted and frustrated by the amount of time, energy and effort we may have to put into growing something or even getting to a certain point. We tend to look to see the end of something before we attempt to start but start to realize that we are no where near the end or where we want to be and by doing this, we put limits and boundaries in our mind.

Not only that, we will see how far we are from accomplishing something and start to rush through things or even take on multiple tasks at one time to which some will refer to as "Multi-tasking."

Taking on multiple tasks at one time and rushing through them can deplete the time and energy it takes to be fully focused on accomplishing your goal.

If we take a step back and start to set milestones for the problems we are trying to solve or for the goals we are trying to reach, we can can essentially accomplish things quicker.

Setting benchmarks and breaking your goals down into segments will ease the load and brain power consumption so things will be easier to manage and finish.

For the most part, we all want to finish things we set out to do but realistically, most of us never finish what we started. What happens after is that we are met with a great deal of disappointment because of what our minds have constantly told our subconscious minds.

The solution is to focus in on what you want to accomplish and that only. Do not worry about how much work you have to put in or how far you've got to go. The conditions are never perfect. You have to get started.

Start setting benchmarks and milestones for your goals and as you start knocking them out one by one, you will start to realize how much work you have put in that is only bringing you closer and closer to accomplishing your goals.

I would love to hear your thoughts and how this quotes apply to you. Have you ever lost your motivation to finish something because you thought it would be too much work or take too much time? Leave your comments below!

Monthly Online Income Report | March 2016

 Welcome to Lab172 Income Reports!

Every month I create and share a monthly online income report that is a detailed account of my online earnings. These reports allows me keep track of my progress, the trials and errors and also to give readers the ability to join me on my journey and hopefully take something out of it that you can use to help you build a business, create online income or generate new ideas for a project!

These reports count income which was earned during the month, but not necessarily paid out to us within that month. With many affiliate programs there is sometimes a significant delay between earning a commission and actual payout.

Hi everyone, Welcome to the newly re-branded blog, Lab172. This is a very exciting month and over the last few months, there has been some changes to the blog and a lot of work being done!

First off, I would like to say that March has been a very busy month for me and my family. We started off the month by taking the family down to Daytona for spring break and had a really great time! We went to Daytona last year in February for vacation and although we did have a good time, it was very windy and the water was cold so we did not stay down by the beach much.

This year, it was perfect! We spent most of the time down by the beach and the kids all enjoyed themselves.

 Lets Get Down To Business

Aside from the personal stuff,  I was also able to get a lot of work completed as I've mentioned in February's income report. The first and most obvious change was the name of the blog.

In last month's income report, I gave a full explanation as to why I decided to change the name of the blog. I simply decided to re-brand the blog because I needed to differentiate myself from others and also accommodate the direction the blog was going.

The overall focus of the new Lab172 blog is to focus on content creating, discussing new business and income ideas, personal development and much more.

Over the next few months, there will be lots of content and several product releases that I've been working many long days and nights on.

This month, I was able to launch a T-shirt collection I've been working on for some time now, launch a few divisions within the Lab172 community and also did some work on my upcoming book which will be available as a eBook and as a physical book.

One project I was also able to complete was my goal of writing and publishing 5 quality base articles for each of my niche sites.

Completing the articles for the niche sites was probably the main focus over the last few months.

To sum up the reason of its importance, I was able to create a very strong strategy to develop my niche blog sites. In a article I'm currently preparing and will publish very soon, I will explain the process I've been testing and using throughout the development process of my niche sites, the things I've learned from these processes and the people I've learned the processes from.

It involves many techniques that many people may be familiar with but do not necessarily know the major importance of building your niche site in that particular order.

Niche Sites

Although creating articles for the niche sites was a main priority, most of my focus has been on only a few niche sites lately. Right now, aside from maintaining this blog, and several other sites, the main portfolio of niche sites contains about 12 niche sites.

Out of that 12 sites,
  • 3 sites are unpublished
  • 2 sites are published with little to no content
  • 7 sites are all published with more that 10 or more pieces of published content which includes pages and articles.

From the 7 published niche sites, we will focus on the 3 main main active sites.
  • 3 are bringing in small amounts of income every month between Adsense and affiliate earnings
  • Had I put more effort and time into those sites earlier on, they would have been further along by now
  • So what I am doing now is analyzing the data of each of those sites and trying to play catch up. Each day I'm adding content building upon its' current foundation.

As of right now, 1 site in particular which shows the most potential, has the ability to become a authority site because of the quality of content that has been added to the site over the last year. It also has the most articles published between all of my other niche sites. We will consider this niche site as "Site 1."

Site 1 is the most active site in the portfolio and accounts for at least 70 percent of the overall traffic and income between the 3 published niche sites put together.

Site 2 and 3 are both what I consider a work in progress. They both have lots of potential and are bringing in small amounts of income so if I can beef up the content on those sites, they will be just as active as site 1.

As for the other 4 which are published but are not as active as the main 3, the same will have to be done once work on the main 3 sites are completed. Overall, I will build out all 12 niche sites over time building upon what is already there but as of right now, I think it is time to start looking into doing something I have been putting off for a long time.

Outsourcing Article Writing

I've wrote about my earlier experience outsourcing the creation of the mobile game apps using Fiverr but using a freelance writer to write articles for my niche sites has been something I have been waiting a while now to start doing.

There's many gigs on Fiverr for $5 which will give you a basic topic research and written article that you can use and publish right away or you can use it as a starting point to build upon. For example, this gig on Fiverr below-
This gig comes in 3 different pricing levels:
  • $5 - Basic Package - 600 word article delivered in a word document.
  • $10 - Premium Package - 700 word article delivered in a word document with one original image included.
  • $25 - Pro SEO Package - The ultimate Package. One 800 word article with one image and a text video version in mp4 format.
All packages also comes with Topic Research and Commercial Usage Rights which make something like this very beneficial for bloggers and writers who may need a extra hand with content writing.

One reason I did not use a freelance writer before was because when building niche sites, I always want to start out by using free online tools to build the niche sites then once profitable, I then use the revenue to purchase additional resources as the sites grow.

So essentially, every site will need to earn revenue to pay for the things it needs. This would also mean that all work will be done by me at the beginning of its' life cycle.

This is the main reason I have been behind on all tasks that needs to be done for my online businesses. I do however, enjoy all the time I've invested and everything I've learned and created which has brought me to this point.

Lately I've been bombarded with work and while my main focus was on creating articles, I knew I could use some of the options available to me. My first option was to go on Fiverr and hire a freelance writer but when I had some time to think about it, I decided to first try another route to see how things would go.

A friend of mines has always been a great writer and has actually written a book he is getting ready to self publish. I decided to ask him to write a few articles just to see how he would do but to also save some time while I worked on other major issues. The article is not meant to be a guest post or anything, it is just a starting point for me to add add on and revise. Once the article is completed, I will more than likely use a combination of freelance writer including my friend to help with content writing.

Social Following

I haven't talked much about the social media stats for my niche sites and brands since September 2015's online income report which I must say that a lot has changes since then.

In comparison with September's numbers, I made some gains and some losses and that has to do with the lack of promoting and mostly due to shutting down and starting niche sites over that period.

Juggling many social media pages for the niche sites is a hard task so the only thing I've been doing lately is publishing article on their respective pages once the article was completed. Nothing else.

The new plan that I've created calls for
  • More content to be created and shared among each individual platform
  • A heavy focus on images and visuals oppose to written content
  • More interaction with current and new audience
It does take time to get things up to speed with the entire plan but as I always say, its a work in progress.

So Whats New With The Lab172 Blog

At the beginning of the New year, I made a promise that I would introduce new content across the blog and so far I've been on point with the different projects I've started. Lets get into some of the new thing we have going on with the blog.

Guest Posts and Interviews

This is something new to me so I was quite hesitant at first to even reach out to someone to do a interview or a guest post but I eventually did and I'm glad I did.

Guest Posts in particular is something I wanted to wait until I've actually spent some time building up this blog before I reached out to anyone. Most people who are already established will more than likely pass on doing a guest post for your blog especially when you really don't have much of an audience. Another reason was because I knew the blog would soon be changing and reorganizing at some point and would take some time to get everything organized.

Since everything is moving now, I've decided to reach out to a few people, 1 guy in the reseller community and another who is just starting out building niche sites. I feel that doing this can provide lots of value for all of our individual audience base and can be of value for our online businesses. Within the next months, we should have our first few interviews which are usually Q&A form, published on the blog.

Projects & Brands Section

Also introduced was the Projects and Brands section of Lab172. In this section you can view some of the current projects and brands in the Lab172 community which includes many of the content you may be familiar with already and many new things. I'm still experimenting with many of the projects listed so there still many changes to come within time

Let's look at whats going on in the Lab172 community.
